Recognised lay ministry

Is God calling you to recognised lay ministry in the Church in Wales?

There are various recognised ministries within your local ministry/mission area. These roles may include church warden, safeguarding officer, home group leader, Sunday School teacher, or youth minister. Or it may be that you are someone who provides prayer and listening or helps to grow the church in a specific way.

The discernment and training for these ministries are organised locally, guided by your ministry/mission area leader. Many roles may also require some national training, such as safeguarding courses. As a recognised minister, you would typically be supported and supervised by your ministry/mission area leader or another cleric appointed to oversee your role.

If you feel called to serve your local church in a recognised lay ministry role, please speak with your church leader or chaplain to explore how you might pursue your vocation.
