Reporting to: Director of MA TMM, Tutor in Old Testament
Hours of Work: 18 hours/pw
Job Purpose
St Padarn’s aims for excellence in every area of delivery, with a central commitment to put the learner first, and every role in St Padarn’s contributes to this commitment.
The purpose of this role is to support St Padarn’s in developing accessible learning, particularly for those with disabilities, but also for those who may need help with study skills.
You will support, advise and provide expertise and training to the institution in order to develop the understanding of both staff and learners, and on best practice and practical application of policy both in education and in ministerial placements.
You will work alongside the other two members of the Learning Support team, the Learning Services Manager who supports learners through the DSA process and liaising with the SLC, and the administrator. You will ensure that appropriate learning support plans are developed and implemented, working directly with learners and staff to facilitate this.
You will also advise staff and support learners directly to improve study skills.
St Padarn’s has around 400 learners, most of whom are part-time. Community is one of our core values, and you will be a valuable part of a friendly team who are passionate about learners’ development.
Person Specification
Essential
- Significant relevant professional experience in this field
- Educated to degree level
- Aptitude and willingness to work with relevant sector bodies to increase skill levels.
- Knowledge and understanding of the requirement of disabled people and experience of providing advice and guidance to a range of disabled people and of advising on reasonable adjustments and support.
- Good understanding of a range of disabilities, with a willingness to further develop knowledge.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills, including the confidence and ability to communicate effectively with different audiences.
- Ability to relate to individual learners both face to face and using on-line technology such as Teams.
- Personal qualities and experience to gain the confidence of learners and support them to maximise their learning potential.
- The ability to negotiate with and influence, motivate and inspire others to change their behaviours, often in relation to difficult and sensitive issues
- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritise work effectively and keep accurate records
- The ability to identify and resolve issues tactfully, including inappropriate practices and procedures, finding creative and practical solutions in a positive and professional manner
- Experience of handling confidential information and maintaining discretion
- Proficiency in Office 365 or similar
- A commitment to ongoing professional development
- An understanding of and commitment to the principles of inclusion and equality across all of the protected characteristics as set out in the Equality Act 2010 and an awareness of access barriers facing people with a protected characteristic, particularly in education.
