Salary: £42,998 p.a.
(Relocation grant available to a reasonable level)
Location: St Padarn’s Institute, Cardiff
The role requires travel throughout Wales, and occasional overnight stays.
Contract: Permanent
Reporting to: Director of Continuing Ministerial Development
Hours of Work: Full Time (34.75 hrs/pw)
About us
St Padarn’s is the Church in Wales’ Institute for formation, theological education, ministerial development, and research. It is a vibrant institution which is fully committed to engaging holistically with both ministerial formation (initial training and preparation for ordination or lay licensed ministry), and ongoing ministerial development by encouraging, enabling, and resourcing lifelong learning and spiritual and theological maturity.
Training for ministry, both pre and post ordination/licensing, is located within the wider context of theological thinking and research, and alongside investment in the discipleship and ministry of the laity. By holding these responsibilities together as an integrated part of the wider Church in Wales, St Padarn’s is committed to making a strong contribution to the theological and spiritual life and development of the Church. Our strapline – ‘Formation in Community for Mission’ – encapsulates the heart of what St Padarn’s is about. Our primary aim is to create a community of Christian learning, sustained by nourishing and authentic worship, which enriches and contributes to the further development of mission and ministry across the whole of Wales, through the rich variety of training days, conferences, and multi-year programmes it offers.
Person Specification
Essential
- Ordination as a priest within the Anglican Church.
- Significant experience in Christian ministry.
- A degree in theology or ministry.
- A highly developed sympathetic understanding of the broad range of worship and practice found within Church in Wales’ churches.
- The ability to facilitate and encourage collaboration and mutual respect regarding worship among staff and learners.
- The ability to develop in others practical skills in leading worship.
- An understanding of the nature of Christian formation and the ability to assist an individuals’ formational journey.
- The ability to give effective feedback and guidance both on academic and more personal/spiritual matters.
- Pastoral skills to offer both challenge and support to learners, including in times of personal crisis.
- The ability to practice Christian hospitality, and create contexts which ministers experience as restorative and spiritually refreshing.
- Ability to oversee the organisation of a variety of courses, events, conferences, residentials, and programmes of learning
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of ministerial contexts
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills
- A proven ability as an engaging public speaker and facilitator of discussion
- Ability to work both independently, and collaboratively as part of a wider team
- A familiarity with standard ITC packages, and a willingness to use modern technology to facilitate dispersed working and learning.
- Ability to manage a complex workload of competing demands, and to prioritise accordingly.
- An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales.
- Ability to work flexibly with some evening and weekend working when required
