Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

The Church in Wales has been collecting data from parishes for over 20 years, and is now able to produce valuable statistics on diocese, archdeaconries and parishes over this period.

From this data, a Membership and Finances Report is prepared for the Governing Body in September each year.
