Commenting on the death of Lord Elis-Thomas, the Archbishop of Wales, The Most Revd Andrew John, said:
“It was with great sorrow that I heard of the death of Lord Elis-Thomas. He was a figure of historic significance and was one of the main architects of modern Wales. A visionary politician, with a brilliant and independent mind, unafraid of challenges and untiring in his commitment to the land to whose welfare he devoted his life. With his passing, Wales has lost one of its most influential figures who will be remembered not only for his immense public achievements, but also for his personal warmth, intelligence and humour. I know that all in the Church in Wales, of which he was a faithful member, will join with me in sending our most heartfelt condolences to Mair and the family, and assuring them of our continued prayers.”
