Bishop holds school in his prayers after serious incident
Prayers are being said for all those affected by a serious incident in a school in Carmarthenshire today (April 24).
The Bishop of St Davids, Dorrien Davies, has expressed his deep concern following reports of a stabbing at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman School in Ammanford.
He says, “This is a truly dreadful incident, and my thoughts and prayers are with the injured, the staff, pupils and families of all at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman. The Church of All Saints, Ammanford, has been open to offer help and pastoral support in response to what has happened.”
The vicar of All Saints Church, the Revd Alison Reeves, and church members have been providing tea and coffee to anxious parents at the school gates. The church, which is yards away from the school, is available for anyone who wants to light a candle or say a prayer.
Bishop Dorrien is currently out of the country but plans to visit Ammanford on Friday.
The stabbing incident occurred at lunchtime. Three people - two of whom are known to be teachers - have been injured. At least one has been flown to hospital by an Air Ambulance. One person has been arrested and police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Pupils at the school were kept in lockdown in their classrooms for several hours.
