Eisteddfod Llŷn and Eifionydd
The Diocese of Bangor will be welcoming visitors to the National Eisteddfod next week with a host of events at the Maes at Boduan.
The bunting is up around the Llŷn and Eifionydd area and from August 5-12 it will be bursting with colour, music, literature and Welsh culture.
Cadfan Trail
Pop to the “Pererin" (Pilgrim) stand to find out about the Cadfan Trail – a new pilgrimage route in the south of the diocese which is being launched as part of the Pererin strand of the diocese’s Llan project.
The stand, next door to the Cytûn tent, will showcase information about the route, along with poetry and music performances by the Welsh Literary Project, Llwybr Cadfan .
The play Cadfan's Character, starring actor Llion Williams as the saint, will be performed at the Cytûn tent. Another event that has been organised on Tuesday is a pilgrimage. The resident poets of the project, along with Twm Morys, Gwyneth Glyn and a few other familiar faces, will lead us around the field, singing and reciting their poems. It starts at midday at the Gorsedd stones. The poets will also take part in a session in the Societies tent on Wednesday. This will be a fun event, again tracing the beginnings of this unique project, and an opportunity to hear some of the work from the poets themselves.
Meet the Archbishop
The Archbishop of Wales, Andrew John, will be present for several days of the festival. He will be part of Oedfa'r Eisteddfod at 10am on Sunday (August 6). He is also leading a peace vigil in the Cytûn tent on the Monday evening and will be invested into the 'Gorsedd y Beirdd' on the Friday morning of the Eisteddfod. More information
Cathedral Choir visit
Another special event that is part of the Eisteddfod's offering is a service of Choral Holy Eucharist. The choir of St Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor will visit St Peter's Church in Pwllheli on Friday 11 August at 6pm. The Sub-Dean of the Cathedral, Canon Siôn Rhys Evans, will preach.
Earlier on Friday, at 2.30pm the choir will also sing at the Cytûn tent.
Book launch
From Bible translations to circulating schools, the contribution of the Church in Wales to Welsh history and culture is explored in the first volume of a new book series.
Gofal ein Gwinllan: Ysgrifau ar Gyfraniad yr Eglwys yng Nghymru i Lên, Hanes a Diwylliant Cymru, will be launched at the Societies tent on August 11 at 3pm.
