Warm hub brings cheer through the winter
A new warm space café in Dolgellau is helping the community combat the triple challenge of winter fuel costs, food poverty, and social isolation. Clwb Cawl, launched by churches in the Bro Cymer Ministry Area, provides both a warm space and hot meals during the coldest months of the year.
Operating from November to January, the initiative offers a warm sanctuary where people can enjoy freshly-made soup provided free of charge and supplied by a local business. It's also an opportunity for people to meet others, have a chat and enjoy the company.
The Revd Dr Carol Roberts, one of the Clwb Cawl organisers, says, “It is important that as churches in the Bro Cymer Ministry Area we reach out to our local communities and find ways to serve them and support them. The aim of Clwb Cawl is to draw people together in a warm environment, where they eat together, perhaps make new friends, and where they feel welcomed and valued as part of the Clwb Cawl Community.
“I am grateful for the support of the Revd Danni Worley, the Baptist minister, who works alongside me serving the soup, teas and coffees, and chatting with people.”
The Bishop of Bardsey David Morris says, “Clwb Cawl is an excellent initiative during these colder months, ensuring people in and around Dolgellau have a regular opportunity to enjoy a warm meal, company and support. It's an inspiring example of the church reaching out and serving the wider community."
Clwb Cawl takes place weekly at The Free Library between 11am-1.30pm.
Warms hubs, which are held across Wales, are funded by the Welsh Government.
