Theological

‘Theology’ means literally ‘words about God’. Christian theology involves our trying to understand and explain what God has revealed about himself through Scripture. This work is aided by the writings of past and present theologians and human reason.

Walking in Integrity

A new Church in Wales report, ‘Walking in Integrity’, provides theological guidance for dealing with questions of the use and misuse of spiritual authority.

The document, which has been in preparation for several years, is part of the Church’s ongoing regular review of its structures, policies and procedures.

It has been written by the Standing Doctrinal Commission of the Church in Wales, the body which advises on the Church’s beliefs and teaching. This report will assist members of the Church understand how structures of leadership and authority should be used in all aspects of ordained and licensed ministry and church life, promoting a culture in which accountability and best practice are continually advanced and updated at all levels of the organisation.

Drawing on the Bible, on Church tradition and current best practice in Church governance, it emphasises that God is the primary source of our authority.

‘Walking in Integrity: A Theological Reflection on the Use and Misuse of Spiritual Authority” is available from the Church in Wales website in a full 30-page version, and an accompanying six-page introduction.
