Prayers: Manche Masemola (1928), Child Martyr in South Africa
4 February
God of compassion,
whose faithful servant Manche Massemola, hoped to be baptised,
but was beaten and murdered to prevent her from embracing the faith to which she felt so drawn,
we ask you to bless us with courage to hold fast to those things which we know to be holy and true.
Grant us, we pray, an inward place of peace and stillness,
to which we can withdraw when the world throws at us more than we feel we can bear.
Most of all, Lord, give us your will to proclaim the gospel boldly,
to honour those who have died for love of you,
and most of all, for the love that Jesus showed us when he embraced death upon the cross for our redemption,
through whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, we now pray. Amen.
Collect 160
Heavenly Father,
whose child Manche [Masemola]
was baptized in her own blood
as a disciple of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ:
grant us such trust in him
that our lives may reflect his unfailing love;
through him who is alive and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
