Prayers: The Second Sunday before Lent
Creation Sunday ~ Sexagesima
Creator God,
you gave us the book of the natural world so that we might know you better,
so that we could be in awe of your ingenuity and humbled by your might.
You made us in rich diversity and saw that what you had made was very good.
We thank you and praise you for the gift of life.
We have marred in so many ways the beauty of creation
and exploited the world’s resources so that some have way too much,
while mothers weep over their starving children.
We pray for the grace to hope for a restoration of the earth’s balance.
We pray for courage to know that we can play our part,
however small or insignificant it may seem,
that what we can do is do what we can, and as good stewards, even just a tiny bit more.
Inspire us to find that one area of interest,
that one activity, which we can own and commit to practicing,
that will make a difference to our broken world.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
God of the Universe,
Jesus highlights the wonder of creation.
Teach us to appreciate truly its intricate glory
and do all that we can to care for it.
We ask this in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
God in heaven,
You have given us the wonder of creation.
Teach us to treasure and genuinely look after this gift.
We ask this in Jesus' name,
the one whom the wind and sea obeyed. Amen.
Collect 35
Almighty God,
you have created the heavens and the earth
and made us in your own image:
teach us to discern your hand in all your works
and your likeness in all your children;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who with you and the Holy Spirit
reigns supreme over all things,
now and for ever.
